Police officers Kristian Genty and Crystal Williams-Bowman will appear before a Port of Spain Magistrate this morning, charged with their roles in the shooting death of their colleague, PC Clarence Gilkes, which happened in Rich Plain, Diego Martin, back in April.

Instructions to charge the two officers were given by the Director of Public Prosecutions last Friday.

The duo is jointly charged with shooting with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while Kristian Genty faces an additional charge for murder.

Last month, the Police Complaints Authority made recommendations to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, after its investigation found that the officers abused their power and attempted to mislead the Acting Top Cop about the incident.
