By Newsroom

Afiyah Cornwall scored a hattrick for Trinidad and Tobago as the  Under 20 Women defeated Puerto Rico  3-0 in Santo Domingo on Monday evening.

The ladies are preparing for their opening match of the CONCACAF Under 20 Women’s championship against St Kitts/Nevis on February 22nd.

Cornwall scored in the 18th, 19th and 36th minutes.

The game was a morale booster for the squad.

“We had a much-improved performance today scoring three goals in the first half and we actually should have scored a lot more,” Coach Richard  Hood told TTFA Media after the match,

“Afiyah Cornwall( in photo) was fantastic for the team scoring a hattrick and is leading the team by example. She is working extremely hard on both sides of the ball,” the coach said.

“Fitness is still a concern but we are improving. We had a couple of days with good work on both sides of the ball and we saw the benefits of that in today’s game.

It’s a work in progress and we continue to work towards improving going into the competition,” Hood added.
