A Couva man who appeared before a Master of the Court on Tuesday 30th, January 2024, has been charged with murder, following an altercation that occurred on Christmas Day 2023.

According to the TTPS, HARDATH RAM, a 48-year-old labourer was charged yesterday, following the advice of Deputy Director of Prosecutions, Mrs. Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal. He was not called upon to plea when he appeared before a Master of the Court and will next appear on May 1 2024.

Police reports indicate that KAMEEL SOOKNANAN, 57, of Felicity, Chaguanas, was allegedly involved in an altercation with the accused on Christmas Day, 2023 when he was allegedly assaulted with a piece of bamboo and rendered unconscious. He later succumbed to his injuries on 4th January 2024.

Ram was arrested on January 24, 2024, following an investigation by PC Gaskin of the Couva Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The investigation was supervised by Supt Dhillpaul, ASP Persad, Insp Ousman, Insp John and Sgt Bridgemohan of the Homicide Bureau of
Investigations Region Three, with the assistance of PC Sirikissoon.
