Reflecting on the fact that the country’s COVID-19 situation, though not catapulting out of control, has not flattened in the manner government hoped, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says the existing COVID-19 regulations will remain in effect for another month, ending on October 11th.

His announcement on Saturday came hours after 67 new cases were recorded in the Ministry of Health’s morning update, for a total of 2892 cases, of which 2076 are presently active.

Over the next 28 days, public gatherings will remain limited to five people and schools, places of worship, casinos, gyms, beaches, rivers and water parks will all remain closed.

The one change outlined by the PM, is for employees whose portfolios contribute to the planning of the October 5th budget are deemed essential and will be required to report for work.

With the highest death toll from the virus recorded yesterday with seven deaths taking the total to 50, Health Minister, Terrence Deyalsingh, noted that 90% of the fatalities were elderly patients with co-morbidities.
