COVID-19 UPDATE: Another Four Discharged, Now 23 Hospitalised

By Newsroom

Four persons were discharged overnight and now only 23 COVID-19 patients remain hospitalized in Trinidad and Tobago. (See stats below) And, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Roshan Parasram, while admitting that “ having six or seven days without a case there was a bit of complacency,” is warning that “it is way too early to have that occurring.

In reference to the obvious uptick of activities, especially after the Attorney General Faris al Rawi admitted that the police do not have the legal right to prevent people from moving about, the CMO insisted ”we need to tighten up, steer the course and hold our positions as long as possible for we have seen where countries (South Korea and Japan) that release the grip get new cases shortly after. “The majority of the population when you see them out and about you see general compliance- social distancing and wearing their masks. However, there is a small group of people not complying to that extent. You must continue, as long as you can, to abide by the regulations to stay at home, protect our families and society as a whole.”

The CMO also clarified the issue of a suspected case of COVID-19 at the Princess Elizabeth Centre as announced by the Minister of Health on Wednesday. “A suspected case that requires any level of hospital care is kept in hospital and that is one reason we have the Princess Elizabeth facility used by the Port of Spain General Hospital and the North West Regional Health Authority (NWRHA) to house them and give them appropriate levels of care while they wait on results,” the CMO said while noting that he did not have the details of the case.
