COVID-19 UPDATE: Two Pennywise Branches Closed As Health Authorities Fear Possible Community Spread

By Newsroom

The Long Circular and Charlotte Street branches of Pennywise were closed on Wednesday morning, after it was found that a primary contact of one of the newest COVID-19 patients had visited before testing positive for the virus.

This was revealed by Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Roshan Parasram, during Wednesday’s COVID-19 media briefing.

“One of the primary contacts would have interacted in some way with Pennywise. The closure is for sanitization,” Dr. Parasram said, adding that  “in this instance the person would have been ill for more than a week and would not have restricted themselves to movement within their homes.”

The Ministry’s investigation thus far shows no direct travel history for the patient, who lives in a household with eight other people.

First Citizens Bank’s ATM branch at El Socorro will also be closed today for proper sanitizing.

Dr. Parasram said more businesses may be closed for sanitization, as they continue contact tracing for the case.
