Covid Outbreak In Caroni County, CMO Reveals

By Newsroom

A small outbreak of Covid-19 cases has been recorded in the Caroni county.

This was revealed by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Roshan Parasram, who warns that though cases are low, this could change in a short space of time if people abandon taking the necessary precautions.

He made the revelation at Monday’s Covid-19 media briefing.

“Although the numbers are low, you can still have clusters of cases and larger clusters occurring at the local level and taking those numbers very high in a short space of time,” he warned.

He said the Ministry has already begun working to limit the spread in this particular instance.

“I’ve been working with the CMOH of county Caroni, the CEO of South West Regional Health Authority..to have all the primary, secondary and tertiary contacts quarantined. We are testing up to primary and secondary to ensure that we maintain and control this particular outbreak,” he explained.

On Sunday, the Health Ministry reported 14 new cases of the virus, taking the number of active cases to 112 out of the 7,783 on record.
