Cultural Icon ‘Zanda’ Has Died

By Newsroom

Another great loss for T&T’s culture as pioneering musician Clive “Zanda’ Alexander, who created the Kaiso-jazz genre, passed away this morning at the Port of Spain General Hospital.

He is said to have died from complications related to diabetes.

He was 82 years old.

Zanda, as he is fondly known, was the brother of award-winning musician and Desperadoes arranger Carlton Alexander.

His musical genius started gaining recognition in the 1960’s, with Zanda- a former architect- releasing his first album in 1971.

He is credited with creating the musical genre Kaisojazz.
