A Cumuto woman has been remanded into custody when she appeared before an Arima Magistrate today, September 13, charged with Fraudulent Conversion in the sum of $100,000.

According to the TTPS, RIANNE FOUCHONG aka ‘Rianne Power-Bernard’, 35, of Caratal Road, was charged with the offence, when she appeared before Magistrate Brambhanan Dubay, in the Arima 1st Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday 13th September, 2023.

The matter was adjourned to October 11th, 2023. A victim reported to police that during the period October 4th 2014 and February 2nd 2015, they allegedly paid sums totalling $120,000 to the Director of a vehicle importation company, representing the full payment for the importation, registration and delivery of a Nissan Wingroad and AD Wagon.

However, the vehicles were not delivered as promised in August 2015. A refund of only $20,000 was received by the victim and no other payments were made by the person to date. A report was made to the Fraud Squad and an investigation was launched.

The female suspect was arrested in the Cumuto district on Monday 11th September, 2023 during an exercise conducted by Cpl (Ag.) Liverpool and WPC Campbell.

Investigations were supervised by Snr. Supt. Arlet Groome, Supt. Reuben and Sgt. Bassarath, all of the Fraud Squad. Fouchong was charged with the offence on Tuesday 12th September, 2023, by Cpl (Ag.) Liverpool, also of the Fraud Squad.

In addition, eleven warrants were executed on the accused by PC Johnson, of the Arima Police Station, for her non-attendance in court on several fraud matters.
