CXC Head Denies Anomalies With Grades, Insists Grading Process Had No Hiccups

By Newsroom

Despite thousands of concerns spread across the region regarding apparent anomalies in the results released by the Caribbean Examinations Council earlier this week, CXC’s Chairman, Wayne Wesley maintains that the upset is in the minority and adds that he has only received two formal complaints on the matter.

Mr. Wesley denied that there were any anomalies with the grading and declined to say which member countries filed formal complaints. Nevertheless, candidates who have issues with the results have been given until October 23rd to query their grades.

Students who sat CSEC or CAPE and received ‘Absent’ or ‘Ungraded’ results on Tuesday, will be allowed to query their mark, free of charge.

On the other hand, candidates querying an allocated grade will have to pay to do so. The CXC Head said the regional body is not prepared to waiver the fee, again maintaining that the exam body did not drop the ball in its management of the 2020 examination.

When pointedly asked by reporters across the region who participated in the press conference via Zoom, about specific instances of students receiving A’s across their profiles but being allocated a low final grade, Mr. Wesley outright denied this had happened, insisting that their investigation showed this did not happen.

Asked if he was suggesting that students who made the claims were lying, he simply said he could not speak about a case he did not know about.
