By Shirvan Williams

The Water and Sewerage Authority has advised customers in parts of Central and South Trinidad, who have been affected by the shutdown at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant for planned maintenance work, that the facility was restarted at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Sunday 22nd October, 2023.

The Desalination Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (Desalcott) owner and operator of the Plant, have since been ramping up operations, which currently stands at 36 million gallons per day (mgd), or 90% of the contractual agreement of 40 mgd.

Whilst the facility wasrestarted ahead of time, Desalcott has advised the Authority that works necessary to return the Plant to full production of 40 mgd, are still ongoing. WASA is continuing to liaise with Desalcott regarding the completion of these works and will provide a further update subsequently.

Customers are advised that the Authority is working towards the gradual normalization of its transmission and distribution system over the coming days. However, customers at elevated or extremities of the distribution system may continue to experience a disruption in service until the Plant returns to full production. In the interim, the Authority is working to service affected customers in keeping with the published temporary water supply schedules.
