Diving Tragedy Was No “Unlikely Accident”, Says CoE Chairman

By Newsroom

Last February’s diving tragedy which claimed the lives of Fyzal Kurban, Kazim Ali Jr, Yusuf Henry and Rishi Nagassar was no act of God, nor was it simply an unlucky accident.

Those were the words of King’s Counsel Jerome Lynch, Chairman of the Commission of Enquiry set up to investigate the incident, as the CoE held its final hearing on Wednesday.

Mr. Lynch lamented the fact that there are no compulsory diving standards in this country, adding that voluntary standards are routinely ignored.

Lynch was unable to reveal any details of the report, though he assured that answers about who is responsible for the tragedy are in the report.

“We are not at liberty to disclose this report to anyone other than the President, but it is not really for me to argue otherwise,” the Chairman said.

The Commission will submit the report to President Christine Kangaloo today.
