Double Murder: Mom, Toddler Killed As Gunman Opens Fire In Moruga

Trinidad and Tobago’s homicide toll for the year is nearing the grim 600 milestone, with two more murders reported in Moruga on Monday night.

Thirty-year-old Sachel Elliot and her daughter, 18-month-old Nova Bereton became this country’s latest murder victims when they were targeted by lone gunman who approached the vehicle they were in at Fort George, Indian Walk in Moruga and opened fire.

The incident happened shortly before 8pm.

The victims were taken to the Princes Town Health Facility for medical treatment where the mother and daughter succumbed to there injuries.

The child’s father, Akil Bereton, was also injured during the incident and is said to be in critical condition at hospital. 

According to reports, Southern Division officers intercepted a blue Toyota Aqua which they believed to be the getaway car.

Two suspects were subsequently arrested and an assault rifle was recovered.

The suspects were taken to the Princes Town Police Station.
