By Newsroom

The Education Ministry has expressed both shock and sadness over the killing of school teacher Suzette Sylvester, whose badly beaten body was found at her home in Preysal this morning.

In a statement, the Ministry said the Student Support Services Division and Employee Assistance Progamme will engage with the Preysal Secondary School where Sylvester taught,  to provide support to staff and students who may be in need at this time.

The Ministry also said it notes with great concern the events that led to this death and is hopeful that the perpetrator can be brought to justice.

Noting the significant impact that this news can have on the loved ones and students of Ms Sylvester, Education Minister Dr. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly stated, “We mourn as a country today. We mourn the loss of a life, of a woman, of an educator; in circumstances that are sad and distressing. It is my hope that during this period of grief the support offered can aid her loved ones in the ways they require.”

One man is in police custody after turning himself in at the Chaguanas Police Station, in connection with the murder.
