Edwards Disappointed By Reaction To PM’s Covid-19 News

“Death cannot be the means by which we level the playing field.”

That’s the sentiment shared by political leader of the Progressive Party, Nikoli Edwards, as he condemned those wishing ill on Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley in wake of his Covid-19 diagnosis.

Edwards says while he has varying political views to the PM, he found it disgusting to witness the remarks shared online.

“While Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley and I may have varying political views, it is below me to wish for his, or anyone else’s, including Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s health to decline or worst — their death. Have we taken the humanity out of our existence? We may disagree with our leaders, their decisions may affect us negatively, we may not be happy with the results of elections, but sickness and death can never be the solution to restoring or even shaping the kind of society we wish to see,” he said.

He wished Dr. Rowley a speedy recovery, and challenged citizens to do better.

“Dr. Keith Rowley is a father, a grandfather, a husband and a friend. Think about how his death would affect his loved ones and how their lives would never be the same. As a people we must do better to combat hatred and divisiveness among us. We must hold each other accountable for our actions and our words, while also acknowledging that there is a limit to the punishment we wish to impose on others,” Edwards reflected.
