Eighteen Arrested in Weekend Anti Crime Exercises

The TTPS has arrested eighteen persons, and seized several quantities of drugs and illegal firearms and ammunition, during anti-crime exercises conducted over the weekend across various policing divisions.

According to the TTPS:

Between the hours of 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on Saturday in the Morvant district, North Eastern Division officers executed search warrants at several homes but found nothing mentioned in the warrants. A search was however conducted in an open grassy area, along Pitch Road, Morvant and officers found four plastic-wrapped packages containing marijuana. The drugs weighed 253 grams. Officers also arrested A 41-year-old man of Laventille Extension Road, Never Dirty, Morvant for enquiries of a larceny motor vehicle which occurred on June 30th in the area.

During the period between the hours of 7:50 am and 10:05 am yesterday officers in the Couva Police District, Central Division conducted exercises along the Southern Main Road, California and environs, with emphasis in the Pt Lisas Industrial Estate.

During the exercise, several persons and vehicles were searched and eleven electronic fixed penalty notices were issued for the following traffic violations: Eight – Driver fail to wear a seatbelt whilst vehicle in motion.

One – Drive a vehicle whilst holding a mobile device. Two – Drive a vehicle with unauthorized lights. Also in Central division during an Intelligence-led anti-crime exercise, officers searched and found five rounds of 5.56 calibre ammunition concealed in a vehicle parked at the home of a 31-year-old suspect. The officers proceeded to 54 Temple Street Palm Boulevard, Milton Village, Couva, where they searched a home and found a quantity of marijuana, a 49-year-old resident of the house was arrested.

Three suspects were also arrested during exercises in the Longdenville area: – A 44-year-old man of Cashew Gardens was charged for the offences of DUI, Obscene Language, Escaping Lawful Custody, Insulting Language, Malicious Damage and Threats to kill Police officers. A 20-year-old of Eastern Lane, Penco Avenue for Possession of Cannabis (96 grams) and a 37-year-old man of Chattorie Street, Felicity for Possession of Apparatus and Threats to kill Police Officer. Officers also found and seized one Beretta Pistol with 6 rounds of .380 ammunition at a home in Edinburgh500. Two male suspects were arrested for the find.

Anti-crime exercises in the Southern Division led to the recovery of a Glock 17 Austria 9×19 pistol with a magazine containing and 15 rounds of 9 mm ammunition. In Northern Division, during warrant exercises, officers arrested five men on firearm-related offences. The men are assisting police with further enquiries.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern Division, one person was arrested for the offence of Possession of Ammunition during an anti-crime exercise conducted in the division. The man was found in possession of five rounds 9mm Ammunition, he not the holder of a Firearm Users License.

Finally, in the South Western Division, during an anticrime exercise ‘Operation Safe Street’, several drug blocks were targeted in the Fyzabad, Oropouche and Santa Flora Police Districts which resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old man for possession of cocaine and a 21-year-old man relative to outstanding enquires.
