Eighteen people have been apprehended by the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard after they tried to enter T&T illegally. According to the TTCG, this was made possible due to the newly commissioned Cape-Class vessels, TTS PORT OF SPAIN (CG 41) and TTS
SCARBOROUGH (CG 42).

“While conducting patrols of the South Coast of Trinidad, TTS SCARBOROUGH detected a vessel five (5) Nm South East of Anglais Point, Palo Seco after the vessel had crossed the border of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago from Venezuela.

The Boarding Party onboard TTS SCARBOROUGH pursued the suspect vessel and discovered it abandoned approximately five (5) cables or one thousand (1000) yards South of Anglais Point. Further searches of the area were conducted where luggage and other personal belongings were discovered,” the statement further read.

Following an investigation, the crew of TTS SCARBOROUGH saw evidence of human activity which led to extensive searches of the nearby forest. During these searches, the 18 people who were attempting to illegally enter were discovered and detained.
