Eighteen-Year-Old Among Five Held for Gun, Ammo and Narcotics

Police have arrested five male suspects for firearm, ammunition and narcotics offences by Mayaro police during a sting operation on Monday, September 18. They are currently being interrogated by Gang and Intelligence Unit (GIU) officers.

The men, ages 18, 24, 23, and 25, and from the Chaguanas and Cunupia districts, were arrested on Monday night by officers attached to Mayaro Criminal Investigations Department and Task Force, under the supervision of Sgt Mohammed, who were conducting sting operations on priority offenders and areas known for criminal activities.

During one of the operations, police officers spotted three male occupants on board a gold Nissan B15 acting suspiciously. The lawmen immediately engaged the suspects following which they conducted a search of the motor vehicle. During the search, they allegedly discovered a Smith and Wesson Revolver and three rounds of .38 spl ammunition.

The men were immediately arrested and handed over to GIU officers who are continuing investigations. As the operation continued, police also arrested two men of no fixed places of abodes for Possession of Four Rounds of Nine-millimetre Ammunition and Possession of Three Grammes of Cocaine, respectively.

Cpl Joseph and PCs Meighoo and Guerra are leading enquiries into the cases.
