Eighteen Year Old Charged With Murder

An 18-year-old man is one of the two men who have appeared before an Arima Magistrate, charged with the murder of Joshua Toney, which occurred on August 28th, 2023.

According to the TTPS, DWAYNE O’BRIAN, 34, of Arima and JORDAN CAMPBELL, 18, of Laventille, were charged with the offence, when they appeared before the Arima First Magistrates’ Court, on September 8th, 2023.

The matter was adjourned to October 5th, 2023. Toney, 21, of Maloney, was with a group of persons on August 27th, 2023, at Building 7, Maloney Gardens, when three armed assailants allegedly exited a motor vehicle and started shooting at the group.

The victim was wounded during the incident, while the gunmen escaped.

Toney was taken to the Arima Health Facility for treatment and later transferred to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, where he succumbed to his wounds on August 30th, 2023. Two suspects were arrested in connection with the incident on August 28th, 2023 and September 3rd, 2023.

Investigations were supervised by ASP Victor, Insp. Ramjag and W/Insp. Sylvester and Sgt. Bennett, all of Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Two.

The accused were charged by PC Williams, of Maloney Police Station, on September 7th, 2023, following advice received Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Dougdeen-Jaglal, on that same date.
