Employee who Chopped Boss Remanded to the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital

The TTPS has disclosed that the 24-year-old suspect who was held on November 19th following an alleged chopping incident at a business place in Rio Claro was yesterday, Nov. 23, sent for a psychiatric evaluation by a Rio Claro Magistrate.

According to the TTPS, the accused, who was not called upon to plea when he appeared virtually before Magistrate Ava Vandenberg-Bailey, was remanded to the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital until his next court appearance on December 8th, 2023.

He was charged on Wednesday with Wounding with Intent to do Grievous Bodily Harm by Pc Billy of the Rio Claro Criminal Investigations Department. According to police reports, at 11 am on November 19th, a proprietor was seated on a chair in his office at his business place when one of his employees entered and began attacking him with a cutlass.

The business owner, police were told, sustained serious injuries to the back of his neck and his left hand. The suspect then fled the scene. Neighbours assisted the injured proprietor who was taken for medical treatment at a health facility and later discharged.

A report was later made at the Rio Claro Police Station and an investigation was immediately launched, which resulted in the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect from Rio Claro. Police also seized the weapon believed to have been used in the alleged assault.
