Epidemiologist: “Please Remember To Wear Masks During Protests”

By Newsroom

Officials at the Ministry of Health will be looking at statistical trends in the coming days, to determine whether massive protests across the length and breadth of the country over the past week would lead to a rise in Covid-19 cases.

At Saturday’s Covid-19 media briefing, Technical Director, Epidemiology Division at the Ministry of Health, Dr. Avery Hinds encouraged persons who plan to participate in protests and vigils, to adhere to the Public Health Covid-19 Regulations.

Noting that the number of COVID-19 cases has been low over the past few days, he urged persons at these gatherings to continue to wear their masks, sanitise, and to stay in groups of 10 as much as possible.

Vigils have been taking place since news of the murder of 23 year old Andrea Bharatt, whose body was found down a precipice along the Heights of Aripo on February 4th.

Hundreds gathered for her funeral in Arouca on Friday, and several other demonstrations are planned in the days ahead, as citizens continue to call for justice for Bharatt and all other women who have lost their lives to crime and violence in this country.
