Essential and Non Essential Services Explained Ahead of Sunday’s Enforcement

A comprehensive list of what defines “essential and non- essential workers” was revealed by Minister of National Security, Stuart Young at a news conference on Friday morning as the government prepares to enforce separation, with the help of the TTPS Stay at home measures will be in effect from March 30 to April 15 in the first instance. The final list can be amended upon an application to the Minister of Health who will make the decision in consultation with the Minister of National Security and the Prime Minister. After midnight on Sunday you are advised to walk with your ID and companies should give letters of authorization to their essential workers All public transport, including water taxis and ferries, buses, maxi taxis and taxis will be limited to 50% capacity. Essential businesses- can allow more than ten persons on the grounds that they maintain social distancing What is deemed an Essential Business?

  •  *Discount stores like PriceSmart
  •  Pharmacies
  • Hardwares
  • Judiciary :the Magistrate’s Court, High Court, Industrial Court  and  Legal Services
  • Cabinet, Both Houses of Parliament or Committees that are required to meet.
  • Tobago House of Assembly or committees that ae required to meet.
  • Primary Emergency and Protective services:
  • Ambulance
  • Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, TTPS.
  • Defence Force
  • Fire Services
  • Immigration Services
  • Strategic Services Agency
  • Basic services in Health:
  •  Hospitals, water, Electricity, Fire, Sanitation, Civil Aviation and Telecommunications
  • Funeral Homes
  •  Persons responsible for the maintenance of essential pubic work facilities
  • WASA – for water and sewer main breakages
  • Fleet Maintenance
  • Traffic light Maintenance
  • Prisons,
  • Rehabilitation Centres
  • Immigration Detention Centres
  • Community Residences
  •  Children’s Homes
  • Care of the Differently Able and Socially Displaced
  • Elderly and Geriatric Homes
  • Private Security firms: Estate constables and Special Reserve Police
  • Social Services and NGOs that work with the socially disadvantaged and vulnerable
  •  Persons responsible for the removal of residential solid waste and hazardous waste
  • Banking, Unit Trust, Credit Unions and other Financial Institutions and Remittance Houses
  •  Support Services for ATM Machines, Security Services, Cash in Transit.
  •  Service providers for the Safety and Sanitation for private residences including plumbers, electricians    and exterminators
  • Only Live in domestic workers.
  •  Government Ministries and Municipal Corporations will determine who essential staff is
  •  Inland Revenue, Treasury, Central Bank, Customs and Excise will remain open.
  • Transportation and Logistic services- to get goods and cargo coming into the country
  • Port Operations, Truck Drivers
  • Only Automotive repair and maintenance who are supplying direct support for essential business.
  • Not every automotive garage can remain open
  • Manufacturers and distributors of food, beverages and pharmaceuticals, including the packaging and bottling of these items
  • Persons responsible for the Maintenance of aircraft and   marine vessels
  • Aviation and airport operations
  • Loading and unloading of ships and storage of goods at ports and warehouses
  • Restaurants, take away and delivery only, should established their numbers for a drive through or curbside delivery.
  • Media – incudes workers supporting newspapers, radio television and online media services
  •  Services Food production and agricultural, fisheries, animal care and attention including vet services,
  • Oil and Gas industries and Energy Services – only essential workers.
  • Hotels guest houses or eco lodges, registered with the Tourism Development Authority.
  • Seismic Research
  • (Not including construction workers and construction sites ONLY for those engaged in health care facilities ) – specific workers at health care facilities will be allowed
  • Operators of Furnaces and kilns needed in manufacturing operations which must keep operating for safety reasons
