By Newsroom

Derek Chauvin, the ex-police officer  charged with manslaughter, second and third degree murder in the George Floyd case, was granted US$1million bail when he made his first appearance before a Minneapolis Judge on Monday.

Chauvin, who was filmed pressing his knee on Floyd’s neck, an African American man, in a video which has now gone viral online, appeared before the judge via video as he remains in the Minnesota State prison.

He was not called to submit a plea before the court.

The judge in the Hennepin County District Court set his bail at US$1 million with conditions, and US$1.25 million without conditions.

Meeting the conditions would require him to surrender his firearms, not work in law enforcement or security in any capacity, and have no contact with the family of Floyd.
