By Newsroom

The family of Andrea Bharatt is maintaining hope that the 22 year old woman will be returned to them safely, after she was abducted in her hometown of Arima on Friday night.

According to information from police, the young woman, a recent graduate of the University of the West Indies, boarded a taxi with a friend along King Street at around 5:50pm.

After her friend was dropped off to her location at Cleaver Heights, the driver made off with Andrea.

When she never made it to her home on the Arima Old Road, a phone call to the woman’s  cell phone from her father at around 7:30pm was answered by a man who demanded a ransom payment from the family.

Video footage of the Nissan Versa taxi has been obtained by police, however there is difficulty in ascertaining the license plate.

Bharatt’s disappearance comes two months after 18 year old Ashanti Riley was abducted on November 29 after boarding a taxi to her grandmother’s home for a birthday party.

Her nude body was found with visible stab wounds in Santa Cruz on December 4th.

The driver, Luciano Quash, has been charged with her murder.
