Farley Scraps “Colonial” Dress Code For THA Buildings

By Newsroom

Soon, Tobagonians will be able to conduct their business at government buildings without the hassle of worrying about their dress code.

That’s because Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has announced plans to abolish the existing dress code policy at all Tobago House of Assembly buildings, which he referred to as “colonial”.

The current dress code bans shorts, slippers and sleeveless shirts .

Mr. Augustine said it was unreasonable for a tropical country such as ours, to refuse service to the public for a relaxed dress code.

“No one can convince me that in the tropics we ought to turn people back because they may be wearing a slipper. That can’t be reasonable. The taxpayers are paying us. We, the public servants will dress up. We will dress professionally and serve the people however they come,” he said.

The Chief Secretary was speaking at a media conference on Sunday, following the retreat of the Executive of the THA Council.
