A new political party is coming to Tobago under the leadership of Chief Secretary Farley Augustine, however it’s still early days as the group is without a name or official symbol.

Speaking with the media at the Shaw Park Complex in Scarborough on Tuesday, Mr. Augustine said the occasion was more a launch of the process to set up the party, adding that he intends to lead with a ground-up approach, giving the people a chance to have an input in every aspect of the planning.

The Chief Secretary and 13 other members of the Tobago House of Assembly all resigned from the PDP, after falling out with Watson Duke.

While Augustine serves as the interim leader of the new political entity, he says the THA executive is not in charge of the process.

“There is a team of supporters planning everything from the ground up, so that there would be a political organisation that would hopefully encompass all of the independents and take care of the base support, but build out to be a true people’s party. And what I believe the team is doing is that next week Tuesday they are starting that process,” Augustine said.
