Farmer Nappy Wins The Monarch

By Lillian Searles

Farmer Nappy has been declared The Monarch.

Beating his 10 other competitors with his song “Backyard Jam”, Nappy has won his first Soca Monarch title, the first prize of $150,000 and a chance to perform at a global event courtesy 410 Grand LLC.

Olatunji Yearwood placed second and the third prize went to Viking Ding Dong and Mical Teja.

Farmer Nappy performed donned in house-clothes creating a proper backyard setting with a barbeque pit, a clothesline, and his riddim section as well.

Olatunji’s drunken sailor presentation, choreographed by Wendell Manwarren, brought his song to life.

Ding Dong and Mical Teja closed the competition by honoring Andrea Bharatt and addressing her murder by substituting their lyrics in the song “I Horning First” with “Put the women first, we can’t put them in no hearse.”

The artistes competed without the traditional in-house audience due to Covid-19 protocols, and the showcase was pre-recorded and re-broadcasted.
