Fatalities Reported As 7.4 Magnitude Earthquake Rocks Southern Mexico

At least four people died on Tuesday after an earthquake hit the southern coastline of Mexico, in the state of Oaxaca.

The tremor was reportedly felt as far as Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

Two hospitals treating COVID-19 patients were among the buildings damaged; authorities also reported a power outage throughout the state’s capital.

The earthquake’s magnitude was 7.5, according to Mexico’s national seismological service. The U.S. Geological Survey, however, estimated the magnitude at 7.4.

It struck at 10:29 a.m. local time.
