Female firefighter gunned down

Police are investigating the shooting death of female firefighter, Simone Ramsaroop of Rowland Avenue, Trincity.

Two other men one aged 38 and a 23-year-old of Coalmine, Sangre Gran­de, are in critical condition at the Sangre Grande Hospital up to last night.

According to reports, around 8.30 p.m., Fire Officer Ramsaroop and the two men were in a blue Nissan Versa motor car heading to Jacob Coat, North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, to attend a christening ceremony when they were shot at.

Ramsaroop allegedly slowed the car near the Dudes Man Mini Mart when four gunmen dressed in dark-col­oured clothing ran out and started firing using automatic assault rifles and nine-millimetre pistols. They then ran off.

The Fire Services Association (Second Division) mourned the death of Ramsarrop. They posted the following message on their Facebook page:

“The Trinidad and Tobago Fire Service has been plunged into mourning yet again due to the passing of #3924 Ff Simone Ramsaroop. The Fire Service Association 2nd Division Executive, members and staff extends our deepest and sincerest condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of the Ramsaroop family.”
