Fifty-six-year-old Man Granted $50 000 Bail for Child Cruelty Charges

A 56-year-old driver from Couva was granted bail in the sum of $50,000, when he appeared at the Couva Magistrates’ Court on Friday 21st July 2023, charged with Cruelty to a Child.

According to the TTPS, Magistrate Alexander Prince also ordered that the accused shall not have Possession, Care or Control of the child without an order of the Court pending the determination of the matter.

It was further stated that on Thursday 22nd June, 2023, a 9-year-old boy informed his mother that he was home alone and a report was made to the Couva Police Station. The officers responded and upon arrival at the home, they met with the child, who told them that from around 4 am that morning his father left him home alone and went to work.

As a result, the child was conveyed to the Couva Police Station and the Child Protection Unit was contacted. The matter was adjourned to August 18th 2023. The investigation was supervised by W/Supt Claire Guy-Alleyne, W/Insp Jacob, W/Sgt Cedeno-Figaro and Insp Waite.
