Five Held During SOE Exercises

Police have detained five suspects and seized two firearms and quantities of ammunition during ongoing State of Emergency operations.

According to the TTPS, the latest incident, officers of the North Central Division Gang and Intelligence Unit, conducted an exercise between 12 am and 6 am today, Tuesday, 31st March, 2026, during which they targeted several suspects in the Division.

As a result of the operation, three suspects, ages 19 to 28, of Tunapuna and St. Augustine, were held for gang and firearm-related offences.

The operation was spearheaded by DCP Martin, Snr. Supt. Gift, Supt. Jaikaran, ASP (Ag.) Bharath and ASP (Ag.) Pierre, and included personnel of the National Operations Task Force and the Canine Unit. In the second incident, an Operation Steady Guard exercise was conducted in the Maracas Bay district, between 7:30 pm and 9:15 pm, on Monday, 30th March 2026, during which officers responded to a report of a man observed with a firearm.

The officers proceeded to the location where they arrested a 37-year- old man of North Coast Road, for being in possession of a revolver loaded with two rounds of 9mm ammunition and one round of .38 ammunition.

The operation was spearheaded by W/Snr. Supt. (Ag.) Guy-Alleyne, Supt. Birch, ASP (Ag.) Callender, ASP (Ag.) Beepot and included officers of the Coastal and Air Support Unit.

Meanwhile, officers of the North Eastern Division Task Force conducted an exercise between 11:30 am and 3:15 pm yesterday, during which they arrested a 26-year-old Venezuelan national for possession of one pistol loaded with a quantity of ammunition. The exercise also included personnel of the San Juan Police Station and the Criminal Investigations Department. Investigations are ongoing into the above matters.
