Football Legend Diego Maradona Has Died At Age 60

By Lillian Searles

Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60 after suffering a cardiac arrest.

The sad news was confirmed by Maradona’s lawyer.

The football legend had a heart attack at his home just two weeks after leaving hospital where he underwent surgery on a blot clot in his brain.

After being discharged from hospital on November 4th, he was taken to a recovery clinic where he was treated for alcohol dependency.

The iconic former Argentinian footballer was driven away from the private Olivos Clinic just before 6pm on November 11th as hundreds of fans of photographers tried to get a glimpse of him. Argentinian TV reporters travelling on motorbikes filmed the ambulance carrying him leaving before following the vehicle to transmit every inch of his journey.

“Diego has gone through maybe the most difficult moment of his life and I think it was a miracle that they found this bleeding in his brain that could have cost him his life,” his lawyer said

Having only turned 60 last week, Maradona was regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time. He helped Argentina win the World Cup in 1986, played club football for Boca Juniors, Napoli and Barcelona among others and was adored by millions all over the world for his brilliant skills.

He scored the World Cup’s two most famous goals – both in the same match against England.

Maradona is recognized as perhaps the greatest player of the 20th century. He and Brazilian legend Pele were named joint winners of the FIFA Player of the Century award in December 2000.
