By Shirvan Williams

The TTPS has disclosed that a 33-year-old former Special Reserve Police Officer who was held on Wednesday night with 7.5 kilogrammes of marijuana with an estimated street value of $1,000,000, is expected to appear virtually today before a Sangre Grande Magistrate, charged with Possession of Cannabis for the Purpose of Trafficking.

According to police reports, ELLIOT ALEXANDER, of Oropouche Road, Sangre Grande, was charged on November 16th by PC David, of the Matura Police Station (MPS), after being arrested during a drug and crime suppression exercise in the district. During the exercise supervised by Sgt Hazel and Cpl Hanooman, at 9 pm on November 15th, MPS police officers stopped and searched a silver Nissan B-14 during which they allegedly discovered 15 rectangular packets resembling the dangerous drug of cannabis.

The narcotics were immediately seized and the driver was arrested. Following further investigations supported by the Eastern Division Gang and Intelligence Unit and the Special Investigations Unit, the drugs were weighed at 7.5 kilogrammes and estimated to be worth $1,000,000 in street value. ALEXANDER was subsequently charged with the offence. Meanwhile, in the same operation, police also recovered a stolen blue Nissan Almera which was reportedly taken from its owner on June 6th, 2023, from the Las Lomas district.

According to police reports, at 8.55 pm, MPS police officers stopped a blue Nissan Almera in the vicinity of Salybia Bay Road, Salybia, driven by a 27-year-old PH taxi driver from Tunapuna after he allegedly failed to wear a seatbelt.

While WPC Treavajo proceeded to issue the driver a Fixed Penalty Notice, she noticed the information thereon did not correspond to the vehicle, which aroused her suspicion.

The man was then detained following further enquiries from the Stolen Vehicle Squad who on November 16th examined the vehicle which revealed that it was reported stolen earlier this year from the Las Lomas district. The case has since been transferred to the Las Lomas Police Post which is continuing enquiries.
