Forty of the quarantined 68 who returned from cruise ship have tested positive for the Covid-19 virus

The Ministry of Health has confirmed that 40 of the 68 T&T nationals, who returned from a cruise ship, where there were confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus, have tested positive for the disease.

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh revealed the information a short while ago at a press conference. The patients all displayed mild symptoms of the virus in the last 12-15 hours. The 40 patients have been transferred to Couva Hospital where they are being monitored. Even though their symptoms are mild, they fall in a high risk category due to their elderly age.

They returned to T&T on March 18th and were immediately sent to quarantine at a facility in Balandra. National Security Minister Stuart Young also announced that all airports and seaports will be closed from tomorrow (Sunday 22nd March) until further notice, for both nationals and non-nationals. He called on the Opposition to stop being divisive and support the measures implemented as it pertains to bars and restaurants being closed at this time. He also asked that betting clubs shut down to help stop the potential spread of the virus.

The authorities once again called on the public to be responsible and lend their support as it pertains to self quarantine. As a last resort if you have questions you can contact 877-WELL for more information about the Covid-19 virus.
