Four to Stand Trial For Murder

Four men learnt, via video conferencing that they will have to stand trial for the 2018 murder of  Jerrel Aris-Mendez. At the end of a preliminary inquiry on Monday Shakeem Charles Joseph George, Paul Williams and Isiah Pantin were committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the Port of Spain Assizes by Magistrate  Maria Busby-Earle Caddle.

No trial date has been set but they will, however, have to reappear before the Magistrate June  15th to say whether they will be giving evidence at the Port of Spain Assizes.

Jerrell Aris-Mendez,  27, of Fatima Trace, Laventille, was apparently hired on Monday 20th August 2018 to transport four men to the Cascade area. But while at Bagatelle Extension Road in Diego Martin, the passengers, two of whom were armed announced a robbery. A struggle ensued and Aris-Mendez was shot several times about the body. He died at the scene and the suspects escaped on foot.

The four accused( in the photo above) were subsequently arrested and charged with murder nine days later. Charles and George were also charged with possession of firearm and ammunition.
