Gary Hits At Government For Silence On Pressing Issues

By Newsroom

Political leader of the National Transformation Alliance, Gary Griffith, has condemned government, more pointedly the Prime Minister, for what he says is a display of a lack of leadership for issues affecting citizens.

With a Yellow Level Adverse Weather Alert in effect until Saturday, Griffith questioned why there has been little done to communicate with citizens directly.

“Not even yesterday’s floods in the constituencies of Keith Rowley, Colm Imbert and Minister of Communication, Symon de Nobriga, have seen a meaningful comment, far less meaningful action, to properly serve constituents who must suffer for hours, once a little rain falls. Persons, especially in Diego Martin West and Diego Martin Central, should pay close attention, as their cries are being ignored, because it seems Rowley has thrown up the white flag, and the cat has gotten the tongue of de Nobriga, our Minister of Communications,” Griffith said.

“A virtual absence of leadership, visual presence, and even comments, with regards to the many recent negative situations that have been taking place all over the country, the government appears to be in retreat, leaving TNT rudderless, in what many are saying is our most trying times, where for instance, 15 murders were committed over this past holiday weekend. This is the latest demonstration that crime is totally out of control, and that 600 murders in a year, for the first time in our history, is frightfully near.,” he added.

Regarding the discontinuance of corruption charges against former Attorney General Anand Ramlogan and former UNC Senator Gerald Ramdeen, and the Prime Minister’s claim that he had no knowledge of the details of a controversial indemnity agreement with Vincent Nelson- the State’s main witness in the case- Griffith said he was not convinced that Dr. Rowley was unaware of the details of the agreement.

“It is impossible for approval to be given by the government for such large sums of monies without the Prime Minister’s approval, either as the head of Cabinet or of the National Security Council. So if the Prime Minister wants to continue to play Pontious Pilate and to do a Shaggy saying, “it wasn’t me”, then I will inform him that he can’t fool everyone with that tactic,” Griffith said.
