Gary: Unvaccinated Police Officers May Be Removed From Frontline Duty

By Newsroom

Lamenting the high rate of Covid-19 infection among the police force, Acting Police Commissioner Gary Griffith says while officers can’t be mandated to get vaccinated, they may be redirected to non-frontline duties.

Twelve police officers who contracted Covid-19 have died, Griffith revealed at Monday’s police press briefing.

“I cannot make it mandatory that police officers must be vaccinated. What I can do however is find certain avenues to make sure police officers who are not vaccinated, try to remove them from being in the front line. It might affect their salary, it might affect their overtime, it may affect them getting a special allowance, but I cannot mandate anyone unless there is a law that changes that,” the Acting Top Cop said.

The TTPS will soon launch a campaign aimed at dispelling vaccine myths, in an effort to encourage more officers to take the jab,

“What I’m hoping for is that good sense will prevail. We are the front line, so we are at the highest risk.”
