Government Delays Vaccine Mandate For Public Sector

By Newsroom

Government workers will now have until February 17th to ensure they are vaccinated in order to continue working, as Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley announced a decision to push back the implementation of the vaccine mandate for all employees in the public sector.

Following the new date, employees who are still unvaccinated will be sent home without pay.

Speaking at Saturday’s Covid-19 media conference, the Prime Minister noted there was a high prevalence of vaccine hesitancy, with than half of the population still unvaccinated.

The policy- which has been rejected by trade unions- was due to come into effect on Monday, January 17th.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has confirmed there’s been a decrease in COVID-19 vaccinations, with less than 1,000 jabs being administered per day.
