The procurement, installation and implementation of the electronic monitoring system ( 300 electronic bracelets) cost TT$10.3 million dollars over three years. Amalgamated Security Services Limited (ASSL) working with an Israeli company made the successful bidding for 150 GPS units, 100 domestic two piece devices and 50 home devices as well as servers . The primary site has been up and running since November 2019 and will be operated and manned by staff from the Ministry of National Security. The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will respond to any breach in the system.
ASSL, meantime, according to National Security Minister Stuart Young, will continue to provide prisoner transport at a lower cost. Government has signed a one year contract at a cost of TT$25.9 million downwards from the previous contact of TT$44 million.The legislation to introduced the electronic monitoring system was passed in the House of Representatives on Monday and will now go to the Senate where it will be debated and passed before it is proclaimed by President Paul Mae Weekes.
