Government Working To Improve Vaccination Booking System

By Newsroom

Apologizing to citizens who have failed to secure a booking for Covid-19 vaccination via the WhatsApp and telephone systems, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley said his government was looking to upgrade the process to improve efficiency.

Dr. Rowley addressed the complaint while speaking at Saturday’s Covid-19 press briefing.

“System wise, some improvement will come there and secondly, as we get more vaccines coming to us, we will be freed up to use up all that we have. Because it’s a two dose system, we have to use only half of what we have for first dose, holding the next half as a second dose,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh announced that vaccine appointments will be going online soon after collaboration with the Ministry of Public Administration.

While the PM said the goal is vaccinate at least 60% to 70% of the population, it is important to plan the arrival of vaccines, given they have an expiry date.

“While we may need one million doses, we can’t use all in the same day or the same month and because these things expire, we don’t want a million doses in our hand right now and then we can’t use them because they are expiring in a week’s time or so,” he explained.

As it stands 62,360 people have received their first dose of the Astra Zeneca Covid-19 vaccine, while 1,179 others have  been fully vaccinated with a second dose.
