Grief Counselling For Daughter, 3, Who Witnessed Prison Officer’s Murder

By Newsroom

The State will offer grief counseling to the daughter of prison officer Nigel Jones, after the three year old child witnessed her father being ambushed by gunmen who shot him dead in broad daylight on Monday afternoon in Siparia.

Other relatives will also have access to counseling services.

Social Development Minister Donna Cox is expected to pay the slain officer’s family a visit today.

Prison Commissioner Dennis Pulchan has condemned Monday’s attack, which came just three days after another officer, Trevor Serette, was killed in a similar manner in Valencia.

Both men were assigned to the Wayne Jackson Building at the Maximum Security Prison.

Lamenting that his hard working officers were being killed for simply doing their jobs, Commissioner Pulchan said measures must be revisited and enforced to treat with these brutal acts and those commissioning them.
