Griffith To Hold On As Top Cop Until PSC Names New Pick

By Newsroom

Gary Griffith will continue to act as Police Commissioner until the Police Service Commission announces its pick for the Top Cop position.

Griffith’s three year contract came to an end today.

Just two months ago, on June 17th, government passed legislation in the Parliament which amended the selection process for a Police Commissioner.

Part of those amendments, is why Griffith is eligible to act as Top Cop today; previously, due to the fact that Griffith is not a ranking police officer, someone else would have had to hold on until the post was filled.

Also included in the amendments, was the removal of advertising the Police Commissioner post publicly.

Griffith is also in the line among the list of short listed candidates, however it is unclear how soon the Police Service Commission will announce its decided pick for Top Cop.

Back on June 29th, as he announced his bid to seek another term as Police Commissioner, Griffith said he believed he was the best man to continue the job, thanking his self proclaimed “haters” for helping him make a decision.

“It’s been a very tough three years…Some of the haters actually mobilized and used a lasting smear campaign, which was very unfortunate. Many people would say, in a situation like this, ‘enough is enough’. To those haters, if that was your plan, yes, you have been a very big avenue to help me make this decision,” Griffith said.
