Heritage Petroleum Company Limited (Heritage) responded to reports of a hydrocarbon leak at GT Road, Barrackpore yesterday. According to a statement from the company, preliminary assessments indicate that a section of the pipeline, approximately six (6) feet in length, had been detached, in what Heritage strongly believes to be an act of sabotage. The company has since employed the use of vacuum trucks and other heavy machinery to recover the spilled volume. Containment booms are also being deployed in the nearby watercourse.
Minister of Energy Dr Roodal Moonilal also confirmed that the authorities responded to an act of sabotage of an oil pipeline at GP Road in Barrackpore. The Energy Minister disclosed that a pipeline operated by a private company in collaboration with Heritage Petroleum Ltd had been deliberately damaged by people attempting to steal sections of the pipeline, resulting in an oil leak. The incident was reported to the police as an act of sabotage.
