By Newsroom

The addition of 93 hospital beds within the parallel healthcare system has brought the occupancy rate down to 66% from 72%.

At Wednesday’s Covid-19 media briefing, Principal Medical Officer Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards said  the beds were added at the Point Fortin Hospital, and two step-down facilities in Debe and Tacarigua.

The additions mean there is now a total of 891 beds in the parallel healthcare system, with ICU capacity at 80%

According the Wednesday’s Covid-19 statistical update, there are a total of 447 patients in hospital.

“I’d like to reiterate to members of the population that the bed status is dynamic. It is based on a supply-demand equation,” Dr. Abdool-Richards said, reinforcing that there was still a higher number of hospital admissions than recoveries.
