Hurricane Ian causes flooding in parts of Jamaica

Hurricane Ian is causing inclement weather in Jamaica. Earlier today, September 26, the Jamaican Meteorological Service advised that a flash-flood warning is now in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Those areas include St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine and Clarendon. It will remain in effect until 5:00 am Tuesday.

They also upgraded the flash-flood watch to a flash-flood warning for low-lying and flood-prone areas of Manchester, St Elizabeth and Westmoreland.

Hurricane Ian is expected to move northwest across the Caribbean on Monday. Its outer bands have been producing adverse weather conditions across Jamaica since Saturday.

Some of the affected areas include

-Trout Hall main road which is now impassable;

-Pennants Main Road which is blocked by fallen trees;

-Denbigh to Manchester Avenue Main Road and adjoining streets are flooded. These include Harris Street among other adjoining streets.

-Lower Chapelton to Rock River Road is now impassable due to a breakaway;

-Freetown to Four Paths road at Rasta Corner Is flooded; and

-Kupuis to Colonel’s Ridge roadway is impacted by landslide.
