Hurricane Ian has strengthened into a Category 4 storm and is just 2 mph shy of hitting 157 mph and becoming a Category 5 storm. The hurricane is expected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast in the early afternoon, today September 28.

The storm is packing winds that stretch outward up to 40 miles from its centre, and some of the worst conditions include catastrophic floods and a life-threatening storm surge is expected in the next few hours.

The state of Florida has already surpassed 160,000 customers without power, according to PowerOutage.us. Collier County, which includes Naples and Marco Island, is the most affected with more than 41,000 customers out of power, according to the site.
