A union attempt to stop the restructuring of the Water and Sewerage Authority was dismissed by the Industrial Court on Tuesday.
The Court has ruled that WASA has met with the Public Service Association 115 times and therefore was not acting in bad faith, adding that government must be allowed to formulate policy including a restructuring plan withoutinvolvement from the PSA.
In a statement, WASA said: “WASA is grateful to have received the Court’s guidance and now that all legal hurdles have been cleared in relation to the restructuring, the Authority reiterates its consistent publicly stated position that it intends to and will always comply with the principles of good industrial relations practice throughout the implementation of the restructuring process, including consulting with the Recognised Majority Unions in good faith.”
The Authority’s restructuring plan will target senior management first, with 213 managers- or 50% – to be sent home.
