Industrial Court Intervenes: Pilots Instructed To Report For Duty

By Newsroom

The T&T Airline Pilots Association has been ordered to instruct its members to report for duty, after dozens of Caribbean Airlines flights were cancelled over the weekend due to pilots calling in sick.

Caribbean Airlines filed an injunction seeking the Industrial Court’s intervention due to the disruption in its domestic and international service on Sunday. CAL noted that the situation comes amid ongoing negotiations with the Trinidad and Tobago Airline Pilots Association (TTALPA) over a collective agreement for the period 2015 -2018.

On Sunday, Pilots Association denied sanctioning any strike action by its members and points out that it is barred from doing so, according to the Industrial Relations Act.

In its order on Monday, the Industrial Court says calling in sick en masse is barred under the Industrial Relations Act.

Meanwhile, Caribbean Airlines has said it will operate two charter flights from Port of Spain to Miami today, to ease travel chaos caused by Sunday’s service disruption.

Two flights from Tobago to Trinidad were also cancelled this morning- passengers were accommodated on the 8:30am sailing from Port of Spain to Scarborough.
