An investigative committee will be set up to look into last Friday’s tragic incident which saw four underwater welders being trapped in a pipeline.
The announcement was made by Energy Minister Stuart Young, who said in a press briefing this morning that the committee will include industry experts from Shell, BP, an expert diver and the Energy Ministry’s Permanent Secretary.
On Sunday; Chairman of the Paria Fuel Trading Company, Newman George, said rescue efforts had shifted to recovery, as the four men- Fyzal Kurban, Rishi Nagassar, Yusuf Henry, and Kazim Ali Jr- were now presumed dead, having been stuck in the 36 inch diametre pipeline since Friday.
The committee will look at the supposed gaps in communication and procedures, with a mandate of putting forward recommendations to prevent future occurrences. The investigative committee was announced by Energy Minister Stuart Young , on the orders of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley.
