“Jack Is Lying”- PM Admits To Meeting Warner, But Denies Any Political Collaboration

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley has condemned claims made by Independent Labour Party candidate for Lopinot/Bon Air West, Jack Warner, that the pair teamed up for a smear campaign against the United National Congress in 2015.

Warner, in a press conference on Friday, claimed that Dr. Rowley, who was in Opposition at the time, approached him to launch a smear campaign against then UNC candidate for St. Joseph, Vasant Bharath.

“We agreed to hold a Sunshine Hour on 91.1fm in the St Joseph constituency which I did on the Eastern Main Road in Mt Hope and to use the Sunshine newspaper to attack Vasant Bharath especially in the last issue before the General Election,” he said.

But in a response to his claims, the Prime Minister accused Warner of lying.

“He’s lying. I did meet him at Kenny’s house because Kenny is a mutual friend and we chatted generally. There was never any political deal made,” he wrote on his Facebook page.

According to the Prime Minister, Warner made the PNM an offer, which was declined.

“After the Local election he proposed to us that we combine to take control of the Chaguanas Corporation since the combined PNM / ILP seats were more than the UNC. We declined the offer and went into the Opposition in Chaguanas and the UNC got the Chairmanship as a minority but the party with the largest number of seats,” he said.

When asked on Friday why he did not take his corruption claims to the authorities, Warner said he did not think it prudent to do so, admitting that he did not have enough evidence.
